High Streamflow Advisory issued for Athabasca River
Rainfall is expected to bring widespread precipitation to northern Alberta beginning Wednesday July 24 and continuing to Saturday morning July 27.
Officials with Woodlands County note that precipitation is expected to be 70 – 100 mm over the three days in areas. Higher amounts are possible locally due to convective activity.
Due to this precipitation, an advisory has been issued for areas of the Athabasca River between the Town of Whitecourt and the confluence of the Pembina River.
Water level rises of approximately 1 – 2 m are possible in this area. Officials say no widespread flooding is expected, but low-lying areas adjacent to the river may be impacted.
