33 STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE

New program gives students paid healthcare experience under AHS

A new program created through a partnership between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the non-profit CAREERS foundation will give high school students in Alberta an opportunity to gain paid health-care work experience this summer.

The initiative is expected to give 33 youths across the province hands-on experience to help foster success in future careers. These students will have the opportunity to interact with health-care professionals and gain insight into health-care settings.

They will function as AHS employees and receive site- and position-based training and orientation.

“Investing in young people is how we create our future workforce,” says Athana Mentzelopoulos, president and CEO of AHS. “The students get an insider’s look at how healthcare works, which is such a unique and authentic experience.”
