NO NEW PERMITS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Fire restriction in place for Stettler County

Jul 12, 2024 | 2:16 PM

As a result of extremely hot and dry weather and wind conditions, the fire advisory in Stettler County has been raised to a fire restriction as of noon on July 12, 2024.

Residents are advised by the Stettler Regional Fire Department to use extreme caution and only burn if necessary. Be aware of the weather conditions during a burn, and ensure you have water and appropriate measures on-hand to extinguish the fire. The department urges you to never leave a fire unattended, and to extinguish it if a change in weather increases the hazard risk.

Off-highway vehicles (OHV) can also start wildfires. OHV’s should be inspected frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris, and to make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly, the fire department says.

The following restrictions are in place:

  • No new permits will be issued
  • Existing permit holders will be allowed to complete burning within the permitted time with extreme caution
  • Essential burning in incinerators that are constructed of non-combustible material and have a tight-fitting metal mesh screen with openings no larger than 13 mm is allowed
  • Backyard fire pits and safe wood campfires contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen with openings no larger than 13 mm are also allowed. This includes portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves, and barbecues.

The fire restriction will remain in place until further notice. Conditions will be monitored, and the Stettler Regional Fire Department will update the public on any changes.
