Red Deer Regional Airshow officials reiterate show a no-go for 2024 due to expansion project

Jul 11, 2024 | 4:04 PM

Red Deer Regional Airshow officials are reminding show-goers that the event is not happening in 2024.

Ashley Nelson, interim director of business development and communications with Red Deer Regional Airport, says the plan was always for the airshow to occur biennially, largely due to a $30 million expansion project happening at the airport in 2024.

“There was a lot of excitement after last year’s event and how much fun the community had. We’ve been getting a lot of requests the last couple weeks from guests thinking it’s happening, and from people asking how to buy tickets,” says Nelson.

“We want to reiterate to folks it wasn’t happening this year due to the expansion project, and that’s mainly focused around safety of guests and of the construction company on-site. It’s just not safe to have 25,000 people there while construction is ongoing.”

Planning is ongoing for the next airshow, though details can’t be finalized until it’s known for sure when construction will be complete.

Girls in Aviation Day is still set for Sept. 21, as well as the Westerner Days Boot Scootin’ BBQ on July 18.
