Judge’s decision expected this summer after stolen car strikes police vehicle

A decision is expected later this summer for one of two people charged after a stolen vehicle struck a police car in central Alberta this fall.

Brandon William Wallner, 34, of Red Deer, is expected to learn a judge’s decision on Aug. 8, 2024, after the completion of his trial in Red Deer Court of Justice on July 10, 2024.

His co-accused, Kali Rae Miller, 31, of Trochu, however, saw all of her charges withdrawn on Jan. 19, 2024.

It was on Oct. 28, 2023, when Innisfail RCMP say they were conducting a patrol in Springbrook looking for a prolific offender from the Penhold area. While on patrol, RCMP members located a stolen Dodge sedan.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, Mounties say the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed, striking a police car, causing minor damage.

RCMP say the stolen vehicle immediately became stuck in the snow where police arrested one male and one female suspect. Mounties allege the female suspect was also found to be in possession of stolen credit cards, and non-taxed cigarettes, noting she was also wanted on numerous warrants from Three Hills and Red Deer, at the time.

Brandon Wallner was charged with:

• Flight from Police
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
• Traffic Safety act offences (x3)

Kali Miller was charged with:

• Flight from Police
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Identity Fraud
• Possession property obtained by crime under $5000 (x2)
• Possession of stolen credit card
• Possession of non-taxed cigarettes
