Five central Alberta communities beat heat records for July 10

With sweltering temperatures abounding everywhere in the province, five central Alberta communities officially beat heat records for July 10.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the Red Deer area eclipsed a previous heat record set more than 100 years ago.

The Red Deer area saw heat getting up to 34.3 degrees Celsius on July 10, beating the previous record of 33.9 degrees Celsius set in 1906.

Records for the Red Deer area have been kept since 1904.

Meanwhile, the Lacombe area also beat a long-standing record.

ECCC data shows Lacombe got as hot as 34.9 degrees Celsius on July 10, beating the previous record of 33 degrees Celsius set in 1985.

Records for the Lacombe area have been kept since 1907.

The Rocky Mountain House area smashed a previous weather record for July 10, too.

According to ECCC, July 10 saw temperatures boil over to 35.2 degrees Celsius, beating the old record of 32.1 set on July 10, 1985.

The Nordegg area also set a temperature record for the same day.

ECCC data shows it got as hot as 32.7 degrees Celsius, beating the old record of 30.9 degrees Celsius set July 10, 2002.

Records for the Rocky and Nordegg areas have been kept since 1915.

The Sundre area also saw uncomfortably hot, record-breaking temperatures.

ECCC data shows it got as hot as 33.9 degrees Celsius, beating the old record of 31 degrees Celsius set July 10, 2021.

Records in this area have been kept since 1993.
