Annual Roadway and Sidewalk Improvement Programs

Other roadway and sidewalk improvements that are happening in Ponoka this season as part of the Town’s annual Roadway and Sidewalk Improvement Programs include:

• Line painting on roadways throughout the community;

• Grading back lanes and gravel roads;

• Ongoing pothole repairs on roadways throughout the community;

• The sidewalk paving stones on Chipman Avenue were re-laid in May; and

• Small areas of roadway have been repaved throughout the community.

Crews also completed micro-surfacing work on the following Town roads in June:

• 48 Avenue (from Highway 53 to 54 Street); • 60 Street (from 48 Avenue to 57 Avenue);

• 38 Street (the paved section from Highway 53 continuing north); and

• 46 Street (from Highway 53 continuing south to the Town boundary).

Micro-surfacing Extends Roadway Longevity

Micro-surfacing is an application where a special coating is added to the top layer of asphalt, to preserve the underlying pavement by preventing oxidization and moisture penetration. New Micro-surfacing is a cost-effective treatment that prolongs the life of the road by slowing down ongoing deterioration. This helps the Town of Ponoka keep roadways in good condition and maximize the pavement lifecycle.
