Red Deer man, wanted Canada-wide, arrested in Cold Lake

A Red Deer man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been arrested by Cold Lake RCMP.

Cold Lake RCMP say it was July 1 when they were called to a break and enter in progress at a local home.

Upon arrival, they discovered the suspect in custody by the homeowner, who told police he did not know the suspect.

Investigation determined that the suspect had threatened the homeowner with an imitation firearm.

Leonard McGillis, 59, a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery with an offensive weapon;
  • Breaking and entering a residence;
  • Mischief under $5000 dollars;
  • Theft under $5000 dollars;
  • Uttering threats;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Weapons possession contrary to order (x2).

McGillis was wanted on an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation.

McGillis was brought before a justice of the peace, then remanded into custody and will appear at the Cold Lake Alberta Court of Justice on July 10, 2024.
