RECOGNIZING DROWNING PREVENTION WEEK

Ponoka Aquaplex hosting free activity week

Jul 4, 2024 | 1:39 PM

National Drowning Prevention Week falls from July 21-27 this year, and the Ponoka Aquaplex is hosting a variety of fun, free activities in its recognition.

The activities planned at the Ponoka Aquaplex include:

  • Free swim and free outdoor community barbecue – Thursday, July 25, the free swim will run from 1-4 p.m. The barbecue will run from 2-4 p.m. and will move indoors at the Aquaplex if it rains.
  • Daily ‘Swim to Survive’ skills challenge – From 1-4 p.m. each day from Monday to Friday. Participants who complete the challenge will receive a Lifesaving Society bracelet (while supplies last).
  • Daily Pool Scavenger Hunt during public swim – Participants can find items around the pool and be entered in a draw to win a prize.

More than 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year. National Drowning Prevention Week helps build skills and awareness about these incidents in an effort to prevent these types of tragedies.
