Frist Friday gatherings feature multiple artists

Jul 3, 2024 | 2:12 PM

The Red Deer Arts Council will be hosting multiple artists to debut their exhibits on July 5 in galleries across the city.

At the Kiwanis Public Art Gallery from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Deb Laninga will present her “Connections,” exhibit. The exhibit features sculptures crafted from cold cast bronze resin that represent “that moment”; the moment where humanity shines, a captured scene intended to connect you with emotions, memories, family, friends, and community. This exhibit opened on June 18 and will run until August 14, 2024.

At the Red Deer Arts Council Community Gallery from 5-7 p.m., the exhibit “Taming the ADHD Brain” will be presented by artist Carmen Winter. This artist is known for local mural works around downtown Red Deer, and works in 2D, 3D, and musical creations. The exhibit opens July 4 and runs until August 26, 2024.

The Marjorie Wood Gallery in the Kerry Wood Nature Centre will host Julia Roth from 4-6 p.m. to present “The Wild Side.” This collection is a vivid interpretation of wild, and not so wild, creatures and landscapes. It opened on June 25 and will be up until August 26, 2024.

The “Alberta Old Buildings with AR (Augmented Reality) Experience” will be presented by artist Aeris Osborne from 6-8 p.m. at The Viewpoint Gallery. This exhibit showcases 10 historic buildings from across Alberta with the opportunity to see how the paintings were created, and photos of the interior and exterior as an augmented reality element using the Artivive app. It debuts on July 5 and runs until August 30.

At the Velvet Olive Lounge from 5-7 p.m., there will be a reception for Kevin (Kelly) Christensen’s “Abstract vs Landscape… A Conundrum.” Christensen’s attendance has not been confirmed. Their art will be up from July 2 until August 31, 2024.

“Storm Chasers” is a collection including work from more than 10 artists, some of which will be in attendance from 5-7 p.m. at Curiosity Art & Framing. The exhibit includes works of many different styles and disciplines, which interpret the beauty and power of nature by depicting clouds and other weather patterns. It opened on June 4 and is on display until July 24, 2024.
