Jun 28, 2024 | 3:32 PM

A local man is facing charges after a stabbing on a city bus this week.

On the evening of June 27, 2024, Red Deer RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing incident on a city transit bus.

Police responded immediately to the Clearview Meadows area of Red Deer. Reports indicated that one passenger had stabbed another passenger while exiting the bus and then fled the scene.

Multiple units from Red Deer RCMP, including General Duty, Police Dog Services (PDS) and Downtown Patrol Unit (DPU), coordinated to search for the suspect, who was quickly located and apprehended, preventing further risk to public safety.

Mounties say the victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to Red Deer Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Red Deer RCMP say they would like to extend gratitude to the public for their assistance and quick actions prior to the arrival of first responders. Police say the cooperation of citizens played a crucial role in managing the situation.

Charges are pending against a 32-year old male resident of Red Deer. RCMP say an update will be provided once a Judicial Interim Release Hearing is complete.
