Healthcare Career Exploration Days taking student applications

Applications are now open for Healthcare Career Exploration Days, one and two-day camps that give students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to try different healthcare techniques, tools, and skills with guidance from professionals in the field.

Presented by Alberta Health Services (AHS), participants spend the day(s) working with directly with AHS employees to learn the career options that exist in the organization, including health professions, trades, IT roles and corporate positions.

Approximately 250 spots are available across the province in the following locations:

  • Lethbridge: August 8 and 9
  • Red Deer: August 13
  • Calgary: August 14
  • Edmonton: August 15 and 16
  • Fort McMurray: August 20 and 21
  • Grande Prairie: August 22 and 23

Camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For the two-day camps, students would attend both days.

The cost to attend is $40 per day, which covers lunch, snacks and learning materials. If this fee is a barrier to participation, please contact youth.careers@ahs.ca to apply for sponsorship.

In an effort to align with the spirit of reconciliation and calls to action, AHS is waiving registration fees for Indigenous students.

These camps­­ – including an Indigenous Healthcare Career Exploration Day in Calgary – are one way AHS is hoping to developing the next generation of healthcare workers.
