BASED ON RESIDENT FEEDBACK

Sylvan Lake introduces tent restriction zone

Jun 25, 2024 | 2:14 PM

The Town of Sylvan Lake has created a new restriction zone where tents or sunshades that are larger than one square metre will not be permitted.

The restricted zone is north of the asphalt walking trail along the beach from west of the Pier to the east area of Centennial Park.

There are no tent restrictions south of the path. Anyone wishing to use a tent can do so there, and into Centennial Park.

“We take pride in being a community renowned for family gatherings or a place where you can enjoy quality time with friends, and that remains unchanged,” says Mayor Megan Hanson. “Based on feedback from our residents, we’re adjusting the locations for large tents to ensure everyone enjoys our lakefront to the fullest. Centennial Park and the area south of the pathway offer spacious open areas perfect for gathering, while the sandy beach north of the pathway will now provide a tent-free view for everyone to enjoy.”

The change is an amendment to the Parks Bylaw and passed second and third reading in town council on June 24. It was also amended to include specific rules for the new municipal campground opening in Pogadl Park.
