Inclusive playground opens in Lacombe

Jun 22, 2024 | 2:14 PM

A brand new inclusive and accessible playground is officially open in Lacombe at Trinity Crossing.

Part of planning for the Trinity Crossing subdivision, in the city’s northeast near Terrace Heights, was requiring the developer to provide a new playground for children aged 2-12. The City pitched in extra funding in order to make it one of the inclusive variety, with a final budget of $420,000.

“The new inclusive playground will enhance the City’s service level in outdoor facilities and amenities, allowing everyone to have fun without barriers,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “By bringing in the latest accessible playground equipment, we can help all our youngest citizens learn, grow and be part of the excitement in Lacombe for generations to come.”

The playground design includes a Miracle Recreation Kids Choice Inclusive Structure, which features a nautical theme, an ocean blue colour scheme, and a ‘Big Kahuna’ fish climber.

Wheelchair ramps make the structure fully accessible, while the ‘Alta Glide’ and ‘Ten Spin’ provide accessible moving components for all. Free-standing components from the Museum and Concerto lines also provide sensory stimulation.

Landscaping around the playground is ongoing.

Additional landscaping at the park was made possible when Tricon got the naming rights, and Canadian Recreation Solutions undertook the construction.
