Red Deer man convicted of sexual assault after incidents involving local teens last year
Sentencing has taken place for a Red Deer man who was accused of sexually assaulting as many as four female teens last summer.
Matthew Ryan, 25, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of Justice on June 19, 2024, to 13 months behind bars, less 450 days, meaning his sentence was satisfied by time already served. He was also given 15 months of probation, along with a sex offender registry order, and order for DNA application.
Ryan was convicted on one count of assault in relation to an incident on April 17, 2023. He was also convicted on one count of unlawfully harass/stalk in relation to an incident on Aug. 10, 2023, convicted on one count of sexual assault in relation to an incident Aug. 11, 2023, and convicted on one count of fail to comply with undertaking conditions in relation to an incident Aug. 22, 2023. Two other counts were withdrawn.
It was on Aug. 02, 2023, when local Mounties say a report was made to Red Deer RCMP that a female teen was followed off a city bus, grabbed and assaulted by a male. Police say the female was able to fight the male off and run to safety nearby. Mounties say the female was not physically injured in the incident.
