Red Deer region’s unemployment rate moves higher in May
The Red Deer economic region saw a one per cent increase in its unemployment rate last month.
According to the latest figures from Statistics Canada, the Red Deer region’s unemployment rate in May was 7.6 per cent, up from 6.6 per cent in April and 5.8 per cent in May 2023.
That compares with jobless rates of 8.0 per cent in Calgary, 7.0 per cent in Edmonton, 5.7 per cent in Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake, 5.6 per cent in Lethbridge-Medicine Hat, 5.5 per cent in Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River, and 4.9 per cent in Camrose-Drumheller.
The provincial unemployment rate was 7.2 per cent in May, up from 7.0 per cent in April, and 5.7 per cent in May 2023.
