Donations To The Mustard Seed Red Deer

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools staff encouraged to show team spirit for a good cause

The Edmonton Oilers might have a few more bandwagoners as they challenge the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (rdcrs) is launching “Jeans and Jerseys Days – Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Finals Edition” for the Oilers’ run in the Stanley Cup Final. Officials say staff are encouraged to make a $20 donation to The Mustard Seed Red Deer through the Division’s online payment system (Rycor) to qualify to wear jeans and a hockey jersey for the entirety of the Stanley Cup Finals (Game #7, if required, would take place on Monday, June 24).

RDCRS officials say the initiative builds on “Jeans and Jerseys Day,” which was first hosted by the Division in October, 2021, to celebrate the start of a new NHL season. Staff, students, and families across Red Deer Catholic were encouraged to pair their favourite pair of jeans with the hockey jersey of their choice, showing off their team spirit in style.

Officials say the event returned in the fall of 2022 and again in the spring of 2023 with the introduction of “Jean and Jerseys Day – Stanley Cup Playoffs Edition.” Both events returned earlier this school year.

“We are thrilled to announce that the funds raised from our Jeans and Jerseys Days – Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Finals Edition will be dedicated to further strengthening our partnership with The Mustard Seed in Red Deer,” said Jodi Smith, Associate Superintendent of Personnel. “This initiative not only showcases our Division’s unwavering support for the Oilers but also underscores our commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. The Mustard Seed has been an invaluable partner, and we are excited to continue building upon our shared mission of providing essential resources and support to the vulnerable members of our community.”
