Red Deer aiming to take back title of Canada’s most active city

Jun 1, 2024 | 11:41 AM

Red Deer wants back its title of Canada’s most active city.

The title was achieved a couple years ago through the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge, but Red Deer fell short last year.

In 2023, Red Deer earned Alberta’s top spot, however.

Winning in 2022 earned the city $100,000 to support the creation of physical activity grants. The provincial win in 2023 earned $7,500, which was used to create 12 activity back packs for local non-profits.

The latest challenge runs the entire month of June.

It gets a formal kickoff in Red Deer on June 8, when organizers host the Red Deer Walk-Run Kickoff event, including one, three and five kilometre loops.

Registration is free, with the event going from 11:30-4:30 on Saturday, June 8 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
