May 28, 2024 | 4:31 PM

The Alberta Chambers of Commerce Annual General Meeting and Policy Plenary session took place at the Red Deer Resort and Casino on May 25, featuring delegates from across the province as they tackled provincial and federal issues.

“The Policy Plenary is one of the most crucial activities our organization undertakes. For 130 years, our Chamber has been the voice of business, collaborating with all levels of government to support the business community. This year, we were especially proud to highlight our region’s rich history and continue our tradition of strong advocacy,” said Scott Robinson, CEO of the Red Deer District Chamber of Commerce.

The Red Deer District Chamber of Commerce advocated for four key policies that were adopted:

  • Regulatory Approval for Heat and Steam Recovery Technologies
  • Initial Capital Expenditures
  • Increase to the Canada Workers Benefit
  • Small Business Rental Tax Rates

These policies target critical needs identified by local businesses, the chamber said. Additionally, the chamber co-sponsored three policies along with others across the province:

  • A Pathway to Fixing the Housing Affordability Crisis in Alberta
  • A Tailored and Local P3 Approach to Affordable Housing
  • Increasing Access to Mental Wellness Workplace Supports

Across the federal and provincial levels, a total of 22 policy resolutions were adopted.
