Lacombe city council approves 2024-2026 Strategic Plan update

May 23, 2024 | 12:06 PM

Lacombe city council has approved a 2024-2026 Strategic Plan update, which outlines council’s priorities for the remainder of its term in office.

Council held a workshop on April 15, 2024, where they prioritized and ranked Strategic Plan tactics. Officials say this collaborative effort allows the City to provide adequate resources for the issues most important to Lacombe residents.

“This update to one of the City’s vital planning documents ensures City operations align with the expectations of the citizens we serve,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “This collaborative update to our Strategic Plan will ensure City operations, services, and infrastructure are efficient, timely and effective for years to come.”

This year, officials note the strategic planning update included a new process: providing council with a survey that included all ongoing Plan tactics and the opportunity to submit new ideas to the Plan. The City says council worked through this survey as a group, with tactics subsequently ranked in the completed Plan update according to their consensus priorities.

High-priority tactics in the Plan include, but are not limited to:

• advocating for the further expansion of the Lacombe Lodge;

• further collaborating with the Downtown Area Redevelopment Committee to implement recommended projects;

• updating the City’s Municipal Development Plan and Area Structure Plans to attract and retain investment;

• building a new public works facility;

• building a new fire hall;

• continuing to fund road maintenance sustainably; and

• strengthening community partnerships to expand recreation and social offerings in the community.

By updating the Plan annually through this process, the City says it can document completed tasks and effectively plan for ongoing and upcoming work. Residents can read the document online by logging on to Lacombe.ca under the City Publications header.
