18-year-old resident charged with assault of transit driver

Red Deer RCMP arrested and charged an 18-year-old resident following his alleged assault on a transit driver on May 21. Mounties say the victim did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

Drake Edward Davidson, of Red Deer, was charged with the following:

  • Two counts: assault with a weapon
  • One count: assault causing bodily harm
  • One count: resisting arrest
  • One count: causing a disturbance
  • One count: uttering threats
  • Two counts: possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes
  • One count: possessing a concealed weapon

At 12:41 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a report that a bus driver was assaulted at Sorensen Station.

According to RCMP and victim statements, the suspect was acting belligerent and was asked to leave the bus. He allegedly became agitated and tried to attack the driver with a knife, but was unsuccessful.

When RCMP arrived, they say the suspect attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended and arrested.

RCMP say Davidson appeared before a justice of the peace and was released on a $1000 no-cash bail. His first court appearance is scheduled for June 4, 2024.
