New trial dates set for man charged in local drug bust

New trial dates have now been set for one of two people charged in a local drug bust two years ago.

Randi Walter St. Germain, 43, of Red Deer, was previously scheduled for trial in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench from May 13-15, 2024. His new trial dates are now scheduled for April 9-11, 2025, in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench.

St. Germain was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing in Red Deer provincial court on March 10, 2023.

His co-accused, Erick Becker, 35, of Red Deer, was given a two-year Conditional Sentence Order (CSO) on Dec. 6, 2023, after being convicted on one count of failing to comply with a release order. Three other counts were withdrawn.

Becker was originally charged with drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and breach of a release order in the January 26, 2022, incident.

That’s when members of ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team) executed a search warrant at a Red Deer home in Vanier Woods. The organization says the search capped off a three-month investigation with the assistance of Red Deer RCMP.

The search warrant is alleged to have turned up the following:

• Loaded shotgun;
• 414 grams of methamphetamine;
• 174 suspected fentanyl pills;
• 28 grams of cocaine;
• $4,450 cash

According to ALERT, the drugs seized had an estimated street value of $25,000, while the pills were submitted for further analysis.

St. Germain, meanwhile, was originally charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, breach of a firearms prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a loaded firearm.
