Man charged in fatal stabbing ordered to stand trial
A man charged in a fatal stabbing in central Alberta last year has been ordered to stand trial.
Ian Lawrence Saddleback, 42, was ordered to stand trial in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on May 14, 2024, following a two-day preliminary hearing to determine if his case had enough evidence to go to trial. A trial date, however, has yet to be set.
It was on June 3, 2023, just after 10 p.m., when Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a stabbing that had occurred at a residence on Samson Cree Nation.
Upon arrival, RCMP located a victim with serious injuries. Police say they attempted to administer first aid to the victim and called EMS. Sadly, upon EMS arrival, Mounties say the victim who was identified as a 34-year-old male resident of Maskwacis, was deceased. Officers quickly located and arrested a suspect.
