Ponoka holding grand opening for new off-leash dog park on June 5

May 3, 2024 | 2:02 PM

The Town of Ponoka is holding a grand opening for its new off-leash dog park on June 5.

The event will run from 4-7 p.m. at 5609 49 Street, across from the Town’s operation’s department.

“The new dog park has been a popular new attraction in our community since it opened for use late last fall, said Town of Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson.

“I constantly see cars in the parking lot and people strolling along the trails in the new park with their dogs. I think the location is a big draw because the new park is located up on the river bank in the beautiful Battle River Valley, and is fully fenced but still offers gated access to the river. In fact, the new dog park is such a fantastic new feature in our community that even my wife and I had to get a dog so we could also enjoy the new park.”

The new off-leash dog park features:

  • Agility equipment for dogs;
  • Sheltered seating areas with benches;
  • Fencing around the perimeter of the park with access to the Battle River;
  • A gravel walking trail that makes a loop around the park;
  • Fenced small dog area;

The event will have giveaways, pet-friendly vendors, and pet treats.
