Snowfall Warnings remain for areas west and south of Red Deer
Officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) say widespread snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm are expected by Thursday evening.
Meteorologists say this long duration snowfall event could produce total snowfall amounts as high as 30 to 50 cm along the foothills. Snow is expected to continue Wednesday evening with some areas seeing a transition from rain to snow Wednesday night. Officials say the snow will be heavy and wet, and with the rain to snow transition, total snowfall accumulations are anticipated to vary widely.
Officials say snow will taper off to flurries Thursday evening then finally end early Friday morning. Motorists are reminded that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow, so drivers are advised to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions and take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
