Sentencing date set for man charged in Red Deer carjacking

A sentencing date has been set for a Lacombe man charged in a Red Deer carjacking nearly three years ago.

Quinten Anthony Meyer, 28, is scheduled for sentencing in Red Deer Court of Justice on May 8, 2024.

It was shortly before 11:00 p.m. on July 11, 2021, when Red Deer RCMP responded to a reported armed robbery of a motor vehicle near the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Mounties alleged a male suspect approached a female sitting in her car, displayed a weapon, and ordered the woman to exit her vehicle, which she did without injury.

Red Deer RCMP issued a BOLO (be on the look-out) for the stolen vehicle along with the suspect’s description. Thirty minutes later, an officer in Innisfail observed a similar vehicle in a restaurant parking lot.

Police say the officer determined the driver matched the suspect description and attempted to make an arrest. However, the suspect fled the parking lot in the stolen vehicle.

After tracking the suspect through the town of Innisfail and surrounding rural area for approximately 15 minutes, Mounties say the stolen vehicle was stopped along 50 Street and 42 Avenue.

Police credited the quick action and cooperation between the two neighbouring RCMP detachments for the suspect being arrested without incident and transported back to Red Deer.

Meyer was charged with five counts, including armed robbery, flight from police, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, mischief under $5000, and resisting a peace officer.
