Red Deer comedian to record ‘so inspiring’ special April 12

Alberta-based comedian and Red Deer’s own Niek Theelen is recording his first comedy special later this month at Craft Beer Commonwealth.

Theelen, who has Cerebral Palsy and has performed across Canada and even in the Netherlands, has dubbed the show ‘Wow! So Inspirational.’

Theelen’s mobility and coordination are impacted by his condition, and people often praise him for being able to complete mundane tasks, calling him an inspiration, he explains.

But Theelen insists he is just living his life like anyone else, hence the very tongue-in-cheek title.

The 25-minute special goes April 12 at 7 p.m., and tickets are available in advance and at the door.

Theelen won an audience choice award at the 2022 Central Alberta Film Festival for his documentary called Love of the Game, which is about adaptive sports.
