Alberta’s Smith calls for Trudeau to meet with premiers over federal carbon tax

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith on Thursday requested Prime Minister Justin Trudeau call a meeting of the premiers for an urgent discussion about the federal government’s carbon tax program and the possibilities of alternative options for reducing emissions.

“Albertans and Canadians are facing a cost-of-living crisis not seen in decades and are struggling with severe financial pressures due to crippling inflation and high interest rates,” Smith wrote in a letter to Trudeau.

“Yet, your government insists on increasing these costs further through the most recent increase of your punitive carbon tax on April 1,” she added.
