Preliminary hearing scheduled in Red Deer woman’s death

Apr 3, 2024 | 10:50 AM

A preliminary hearing date has been set for a Red Deer man charged in the death of a local woman last year.

Christopher Lee Furgason, 32, is scheduled to find out on Jan. 7, 2025, if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.

Furgason is charged with manslaughter with a firearm in the November 2023 incident in Red Deer’s Riverside Meadows neighbourhood.

It was on Nov. 24, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., when Red Deer RCMP responded to an apartment building for a firearms complaint, where Shaeleigh Jahner, 26, a resident of Red Deer, was found deceased. At 7:30 p.m., a suspect was arrested.

On Nov. 25, 2023, as a result of the investigation, Mounties charged Christopher Furgason, in connection with Jahner’s death.

The incident took place in the area of 59 Avenue between 60 Street and 60a Street, resulting in a shelter in place for Oriole Park School and Koinonia Christian School.

RCMP believe the incident was targeted.
