Mar 30, 2024 | 9:34 PM

Lightning did not strike a second time Saturday night in game two of the Red Deer Rebels’ and Medicine Hat Tigers’ opening round WHL Playoffs Eastern Conference quarterfinal.

The Rebels once again fell into a significant hole, but could not climb out of it on this occasion, losing 3-1.

Red Deer came back from 4-0 down in game one on Friday to win 5-4 in double overtime; thus, we now have a series knotted at one game apiece.

Game three is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. from the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer.

Scoring summary

The Tigers pounced early in game two, Gavin McKenna (2nd) scoring just 21 seconds in.

It was 1-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second, Reid Andresen (1st) made it 2-0 at the 9:22 mark, and then Cayden Lindstrom (1st) scored on the power play at 15:28 to make it 3-0 for the home team, which it remained after 40.

Red Deer wasn’t going down without a fight of course, and Ollie Josephson (2nd) cut the deficit to two at 6:32 of the third.

Chase Wutzke, who was pulled late, started his second straight game for Red Deer, making 23 stops in the loss. Zach Zahara got his first start of the series, making 30 saves for the win.
