Alberta Transit Union employees see nine per cent increase over three years

Alberta Transit Union (ATU) employees will see an increase of nine per cent over three years, effective January 1, 2023.

Red Deer city council was provided with an update at their meeting on Monday.

Officials say the increase includes 3.5 per cent in 2023, three per cent in 2024, and 2.5 per cent in 2025. The arbitrator’s decision is binding.

In September 2023, the City of Red Deer and ATU decided to voluntarily move to a third-party interest arbitration. The Interest Arbitrator appointed to settle the terms of a new collective agreement for The City and the ATU, Local 569 and issued a decision on March 4, 2024.

“We know how important Transit service is to our customers in Red Deer, and we value our Transit employees and the work they do,” said Tracy Bruce, Human Resources Manager. “We are pleased that we were able to complete bargaining without work stoppage for our employees and without compromising service for our community.”

ATU represents more than 140 employees who work in our Transit Department. The organizational costs associated with the agreement are funded though The City’s operating budget.
