Spring may have sprung this past weekend, but it will not last long.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of central Alberta and all of southern Alberta on March 18, 2024.

They say a “significant change” in weather is coming this week with cooler temperatures and 15-25 cm of snow.

On Tuesday, a cold front is forecast to sweep south through Alberta and bring temperatures down to the minuses. That evening, snowfall will begin for parts of western and southern Alberta.

The snowfall is expected to intensify on Wednesday and continue until early Friday morning.

“Over 48 hours, snowfall totals of 15 to 25 cm are expected for parts of western and southern Alberta. Higher amounts are possible over the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains,” says Environment Canada.

The expected weather is a stark contrast from this past weekend, which saw heat records being set in 21 Alberta communities on Sunday.
