No one seriously hurt in crash between central Alberta school bus and semi truck

RCMP and Clearview Public Schools are reporting the good news Wednesday afternoon that no one was seriously hurt in a crash today between a school bus and semi truck.

The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. on Highway 12 near Highway 855 in Halkirk, about 80 minutes east of Red Deer.

“The bus was carrying students from Gus Wetter and Theresetta schools in Castor. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, and all individuals involved were assessed by professional EMS personnel,” the school division says in a release.

“As a precautionary measure, the students were transported to the hospital for further evaluation. We are grateful for the swift response of the emergency services and the care provided to those affected.”

Families of all students and staff onboard have been notified and updated, and Clearview says it’s committed to providing open lines of communication and support to those impacted.

Clearview is also conducting an internal review and will be reviewing any relevant safety guidelines and procedures.

Traffic was rerouted temporarily but has since returned to normal.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, RCMP add.
