Applications being accepted for the Dr. Martha Kostuch Scholarship

The Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ) has announced it will be accepting applications for the 2024 Dr. Martha Kostuch Scholarship beginning on December 15, 2023.

Officials say this scholarship celebrates the legacy of environmental advocate Dr. Martha Kostuch. During her 30-year career, PAMZ points out that Dr. Kostuch made a significant impact on how environmental management policy was developed in Alberta. Her work is said to have influenced a shift towards shared governance, recognizing there is a shared responsibility for all sectors to act as good stewards of the environment.

The Dr. Martha Kostuch Environmental Education Fund was permanently established to honour her memory and to help students from the PAMZ region pursue an education that will benefit the environment.

The organization notes that this award is presented annually to a deserving, graduating high school student in recognition of their outstanding service and leadership, as well as their potential for future achievement in environmental stewardship.

“Your scholarship makes such a huge impact on the lives of students as we navigate into a whole new lifestyle. Not only do the funds help us cover the cost of tuition and books, but the presentation of the award reminds us of our community’s continuous support”, said 2020 recipient, Rayelle Cooper.

The deadline for applications is midnight, May 31, 2024, and the successful recipient will be notified by June 30, 2024.
