Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics Athlete of the Week

Mar 6, 2024 | 11:17 AM

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics has announced Izzy Palumbo as The RDP Athlete of the Week.

Izzy Palumbo – Queens Hockey Program – Bachelor of Commerce (3rd year) Hometown – Golden, BC

Goaltender Izzy Palumbo was outstanding in net for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team in its best-of-three semi-final against the NAIT Ooks. Despite the Ooks edging the RDP Queens two games to one, the third-year netminder from Golden gave her team an opportunity to win. Over three playoff games, Palumbo made 88 saves (0.936), showing poise and determination.

In Friday’s 3-2 home victory, Palumbo turned aside 30 shots (0.938) and was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game. On Saturday, the Bachelor of Commerce student had a tremendous road game, making 32 saves (0.941) in NAIT’s 2-1 decision. Then Palumbo stopped 26 shots (0.929) in the Ooks’ 2-0 win on Sunday. Throughout the series, Palumbo read and tracked the puck well, especially with a lot of traffic in front of her net.
