The Snell Auditorium in the downtown branch of the Red Deer Public Library will be hosting a special event on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024.

Jeremy Appel, the author of a new book, Kenneyism: Jason Kenney’s Pursuit of Power, is in town to promote his new work.

According to Appel, the book takes a critical look at the former premier and his legacy, going from his childhood in Wilcox, SK, through his student activist years in San Francisco, CA, to his leadership of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), his election as an MP, service as a federal Cabinet minister, and then his rise and fall in Alberta.

Appel says it’s the first biography of Jason Kenney, and is published by Dundurn Press.

Appel notes he’ll be talking specifically about Jason Kenney’s approach to the drug poisoning crisis and how the recovery-oriented system of care he ushered in led directly to Red Deer city council’s recent decision regarding the overdose prevention site (OPS) downtown. Appel’s remarks will be followed by a Q&A. Following the event, Appel will be selling and signing books.

Appel says according to the Book Publishers Association of Alberta, it was the third best-selling book in the province over the past couple of weeks.

The event starts at 6:00 p.m..
