Chair of Olds College Board of Governors resigns

Olds College of Agriculture & Technology has announced, the Honourable Ted Menzies is stepping down as Board Chair effective immediately due to personal reasons.

While regretful of the need for this decision, College officials say Menzies expressed deep optimism for the work that the Board and College will do together to ensure the sustainability of Olds College long into the future.

The College wishes to thank Ted Menzies for his contributions to the College during his tenure as a public member from July 2020 to April 2023 and as Board Chair from May 2023 to his resignation.

By motion, the Board has appointed Al Kemmere as Interim Chair effective immediately for a period ending upon appointment of a Board Chair by the Ministry of Advanced Education.

According to College officials, the Board is in the process of working through the Chair recruitment process.

Kemmere was appointed as a public member to the Board in March 2023. College officials note, Al Kemmere is a retired Councillor/Reeve for Mountain View County, the Past President of the Rural Municipalities of Alberta and Board member/ executive of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. In those roles he served on and chaired many of the committees that he was delegated to and worked closely with the provincial governments of the last 10 years.

College officials say Kemmere’s family farmed in the Olds area for more than 40 years with a variety of focus on dairy, crops and commercial beef in the Olds area of Mountain View County. Local involvement includes being a board member of the Olds Co-op, member of his local church parish council and coaching both boys’ and girls’ hockey. Kemmere’ is also a former student at Olds College, and played a large role in the creation of the Community Learning Campus at Olds College.

Olds College looks forward to its continued work with the Board under Kemmere’s leadership as interim Chair.
