Onward Together: Red Deer’s ‘Ubuntu-Mobilizing Central Alberta’ hosting Black History Month gathering
Celebrate Black History Month this Monday, Feb. 5 in Red Deer with Ubuntu-Mobilizing Central Alberta.
The organization is hosting a Black History Month (BHM) event Monday night at the Red Deer Resort and Casino, based around the federal government’s 2024 theme of Black Excellence: A heritage to celebrate; a future to build.
There will be food, as well as keynote speakers, including Sinita and Xolani Ncube of Alberta-based Ubuntu Eats (not affiliated with the host organization), and Dany Pen, executive director of Raleigh International Bermuda, and an Indigenous Khmer who is a well-known human rights and court advocate.
“Black History Month is a time of celebration, of joy, of being in community together. We are celebrating the seniors amongst us for the work that they have done, and we’re highlighting the work of Black students and entrepreneurs and community leaders,” says Dieulita Datus-Hall, executive director, Ubuntu.
