Lacombe, Alberta’s Daxon Rudolph and Team Canada are fourth place finishers at the 2024 Olympic Winter Youth Games in Gangwon, Republic of Korea.

Canada lost 5-4 in a shootout Tuesday night to Finland in what was a preliminary round rematch.

Led by Rudolph serving as captain for the tournament, Canada kicked things off Jan. 27 by beating the host Korean team 8-0, outshooting them 53-6.

The Canadians then beat Finland 4-1 on Jan. 29, putting up 40 shots to the Finns’ 19.

Then, in the semi-final on Jan. 30, Canada was down 3-2 after 40 minutes against Team USA in the tournament opener, came back in the third, and went on to lose 6-5 in the shootout.

Canada outshot the USA 42-16, and went 1/4 on the power play while the Americans were 0/1, but still were on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

That result sent USA to the Gold Medal game against Czechia, which was won Wednesday morning by the Americans 4-0.

Over the course of the tournament, Rudolph, who was the first overall selection by Prince Albert in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, had zero points and two penalty minutes.
