Murder charge laid in death of Sundre man

RCMP say charges have been laid in connection to the death of a Sundre resident on Jan. 25.

At around 12:20 p.m. that day, Sundre RCMP responded to a report of a male who’d been shot at a home northeast of Sundre in Mountain View County.

Life-saving efforts were attempted on scene and the man was taken to hospital.

The victim, now identified as 36-year-old Justin Goodhand, was pronounced deceased at hospital a short time later. An autopsy completed Jan. 26 determined the manner of death was homicide, police say.

Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit has charged Richard McCulloch, 36, of Sundre, with one count of Second Degree Murder.

McCulloch has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in a Didsbury courtroom on Jan. 29. No other suspects are being sought.
