Youth HQ gets $1 million CFEP grant to upgrade downtown Red Deer non-profit hub

Jan 24, 2024 | 9:32 PM

Youth HQ and Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Red Deer has big plans for the $1 million it recently learned it’d be receiving through the province’s Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP).

The money will largely go towards two priority upgrades at the organization’s Centre for Social Impact in downtown Red Deer. Those upgrades will be to the building’s roof and HVAC system.

“We are grateful for the support from CFEP, which enables us to address facility enhancements and upgrades in support of the charities and non-profits that share this place where community connects,” Rob Lewis, executive director, Youth HQ, says.

The Centre for Social Impact (formerly The Professional Building) held a grand opening in April 2023 after it was donated to the organization by Maclab Properties Group, a private real estate company based in Edmonton.

Its intent was and still is for the building to be a hub for non-profits and other people-serving agencies to call home.

“Investments into non-profits in our communities, like Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Red Deer not only support new activities and programming but uplift youth and help build stronger communities,” says Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women.

“Alberta’s government is proud to provide this million dollar grant to Red Deer Big Brothers and Big Sisters, as they provide essential supports and services for the youth of Red Deer and surrounding area.”

Youth HQ and BBBS say they continue to seek additional tenants.
