They will conclude their weekend on the following day with the matches in the afternoon.

The Kings Hockey will look to keep their offensive game going this weekend as they face off with the Concordia University Thunder on Friday at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Arena before heading up to Edmonton for the rematch on Saturday. Both games will start at 7 pm.

The basketball teams will be on the road for a two-game set against the Rattlers. The Queens will tip-off at 6 pm on Friday at 1 pm on Saturday with the men’s games to follow.

Lastly, the Kings and Queens Curling Clubs will be back in action this weekend as they head off to Edmonton to compete at the Winter Regionals hosted by the NAIT Ooks from January 19-21.

Please refer to the information below for more details regarding the weekend games and matches.

Volleyball

Medicine Hat College Rattlers (0-9) at Queens (10-3)

• Friday, January 19 | 6 pm

• Saturday, January 20 | 1 pm

Following a loss this weekend, the Queens will look to get back into the win column as they face off with the struggling Medicine Hat College Rattlers this weekend.

The last time these two teams faced off against one another was way back in October 2022 with the Queens coming out on top in back-to-back matches. But the Rattlers gave it everything they had and won three sets in the two matches. Outside-hitter Jaiden Ferguson (Business Administration) led the offence in both matches and finished with 35 total kills while her teammate Dani Wiens (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology) had an outstanding 41 assists in the match on Friday night against the Rattlers.

Currently, Wiens is fifth amongst setters in the conference as she averages 7.38 assists per set. Also, middle-blocker Autumn Roos (Bachelor of Education) is the leading blocker in the ACAC as she averages 0.74 blocks pet set.

The first serve on Friday will take place just after 6 pm while the rematch on Saturday will start at 1 pm.

Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2-7) at Kings (11-2)

• Friday, January 19 | 8 pm

• Saturday, January 20 | 3 pm

The Kings will look to start up a winning streak this week as they battle with the winless Medicine Hat College Rattlers. RDP is coming off back-to-back wins this past weekend.

Last season, the Kings managed to sweep the season series with the Rattlers but like the Queens, the men also dropped three sets in the two matches. Outside-hitter Brett Lower (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) led the Kings on offence with 25 total kills on the weekend back in October of 2022.

As the Kings head into the weekend, outside-hitter Noah Carlson is third in the conference with a .471 hitting percentage. Both matches on Friday and Saturday will start 20 minutes after the conclusion of the Queens matches.

Hockey

Kings (7-7) vs Concordia University Thunder (3-9)

• Friday, January 19 | 7 pm in Red Deer

• Saturday, January 20 | 7 pm in Edmonton

Following a total of 16 goals scored in two games this past weekend, the Kings will look to continue their offensive ways as they battle with the Concordia University Thunder on Friday and Saturday.

Earlier in the season, the Kings managed to squeak away with back-to-back one-goal victories over the Thunder in October. Forward Holden Knights (Business Certificate) and forward Erik Miller (Bachelor of Business Administration) combined for four goals in the two victories against the Thunder.

The Kings will look to replicate these results as they hunt down the Briercrest College Clippers for first place in the conference. Following a hat trick performance on Friday night, forward Nolan Doell (Bachelor of Education) cracked the top five in goals as he sits in third place with eight.

On Friday night, the Kings will host the Thunder before heading up to Edmonton for the rematch. Both games will start at 7 pm.

Basketball

Queens (11-1) at Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2-10)

• Friday, January 19 | 6 pm

• Saturday, January 20 | 1 pm

The Queens will look to get another winning streak going as they take on the Medicine Hat College Rattlers this weekend. RDP saw their 10-game winning streak and undefeated record come to an end on Friday evening when the Lethbridge College Kodiaks defeated the Queens 63-53. But the Polytechnic bounced back the following afternoon with a 70-55 win.

This weekend, the Queens are scheduled for two road games in Medicine Hat against the Rattlers. The last time these two teams faced off with one another was back in October 2022 with RDP winning back-to-back games with scores of 72-34 and 90-39.

They will look to replicate these results to strengthen their lead atop of the South Division. Forward Peighton Melton (Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies) enters this weekend with a 59.6 field-goal percentage which is second amongst current student-athletes in the conference.

On Friday tip-off will be just after 6 pm with the game starting on Saturday at 1 pm.

Kings (10-2) at Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2-10)

• Friday, January 19 | 8 pm

• Saturday, January 20 | 3 pm

The Kings will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend as they head out on the road to Medicine Hat following a setback against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks on Saturday afternoon that ended the Polytechnic’s nine-game winning streak.

This week they will prepare for a Rattlers squad that is struggling right now as they sit with a 2-10 record which puts them in seventh place in the South Division. Last season, the Kings fell in two close games with one even going to overtime against Medicine Hat. But a season later with multiple new players on the team, the Kings are near the top of the South Division and are playing some great basketball so far.

Centre Jose Mauro (Business Certificate) heads into the weekend in the top five in field-goal percentage and rebounds-per-game while his teammate Tyrique Walters (Open Studies) is the second-best three-point shooter in the conference right now as he is making over 50 percent of his shots from range.

Both games this weekend will start 20 minutes following the conclusion of the Queens games.

Kings and Queens Curling (Winter Regional Bonspiel)

January 19-21 hosted by NAIT at the Thistle Curling Club in Edmonton

While the Co-op Canadian Open comes to Red Deer this week, the Kings and Queens Curling Clubs will head off to Edmonton this weekend to compete at the Winter Regional Bonspiel in Edmonton hosted by the NAIT Ooks at the Thistle Curling Club.

The Kings head into the weekend tied for first place with a 4-1 record while the Queens look to continue their undefeated ways as they head into the bonspiel with a 6-0 record. In the mixed division, RDP is also undefeated with an 8-0 record.

The top four teams from each division will qualify for the ACAC Championships hosted by the SAIT Trojans from February 23-25 at the Airdrie Curling Club.

Stay tuned for the results on Sunday evening or check out www.acac.ab.ca for up-to-date results following each day of competition. All three teams will start at 2 pm on Friday.
