Some Red Deer gas stations faced temporary shortage due to extreme weather conditions

Jan 18, 2024 | 3:27 PM

Red Deerians may have noticed this week a few gas pumps running on empty in the city.

Reports showed that Fas Gas stations, in particular, faced a shortage, with signs on their pumps that they were out of regular and mid-grade fuel.

Patrick De Haan at GasBuddy.com said they had not heard of any major disruptions leading to gas station interruptions.

Parkland Corporation, who provides gas for various stations including Fas Gas, Esso, and Chveron, stated, “Recent extreme temperatures in Alberta have impacted operations across the supply chain for all fuel distributors.”

They added that they expect fuel to be available at stations today (Thursday).

John Jung, owner of an Esso gas station in the South Hill neighbourhood, said that while his gas station was empty for an unrelated reason, he has seen temporary gas shortages at their pumps in previous winters during extreme cold weather conditions.

He speculated that deliveries can be delayed due to risky road conditions.
