RCMP arrest man after stolen vehicle incident in December

Red Deer RCMP have arrested and charged a man stemming from in incident on Dec. 8, 2023.

That day, members located a vehicle which they say had been stolen on Nov. 16. It was then discovered that the licence plate on the vehicle had been stolen from a different vehicle in Red Deer on Nov. 18.

Police conducted surveillance on the SUV and observed it attend a gas station. Members could not apprehend the driver, but used security video from the gas station to identify the driver.

On Dec. 10, police recovered the vehicle abandoned on Red Deer’s eastside.

Then on Dec. 14, 26-year-old Nicholas Wales, a resident of Red Deer, was arrested, and remanded into custody following a court appearance.

• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (two counts)

• Failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking

• Operating an unregistered vehicle

• Operating a vehicle with an unauthorized plate

• Operating a vehicle without insurance
