Rebels win fourth straight overall, fourth straight over Oil Kings

Jan 13, 2024 | 9:45 PM

On another frigid night in Red Deer, the local hockey squadron gave their opponents, the Edmonton Oil Kings, the cold shoulder at the Peavey Mart Centrium, beating them 4-1.

It was the fifth meeting of the season between the two, Red Deer having won the last three head-to-heads against Edmonton.

They still have five more ahead of them as the Rebels sit second in the Central, while the Oil Kings sit last and outside of the playoff picture.

Scoring summary

There was no scoring in the first as Red Deer killed off two minor penalties, and the teams headed to the second 0-0.

In the middle frame, however, Kai Uchacz (23rd) got the home team on the board, breaking the ice at the 5:11 mark.

Edmonton got it back though when Ty Nash (3rd) scored at 10:35.

But before the second period was out, Uchacz (24th) potted another, this time on the power play and at 15:57.

Leading 2-1 to start the third, the Rebels were looking to hang on for a fourth-straight win.

They would do just that, first with an empty netter from Dwayne Jean Jr. (3rd) with 1:46 left on the clock, and then Uchacz (25th) potted one for himself for the hat trick with 1:01 left.

Final score: 4-1 Rebels.

Chase Wutzke gets his 10th win of the season for Red Deer, making 28 saves. Kolby Hay made 37 saves for Edmonton in the loss.
