Extreme cold causes water leaks and traffic issues on Ross Street and 43 Street

Jan 12, 2024 | 12:56 PM

The City of Red Deer said over the noon hour on Jan. 12 that water leaks are causing issues on 43 Street and on Ross Street.

The leaks are occurring, the City says, due to the extreme cold temperatures.

One leak is on Westpark Crescent and is causing runoff on 57 Avenue and 43 Street. This is resulting in icy road conditions on the 43 Street hill. Crews are on scene working to repair the leak.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible, or use extreme caution, obey signs and give crews room to maneuver if you must be there.

Another leak is on Ross Street affecting the eastbound lane on Ross turning south onto 40 Avenue. The leak will be repaired on Monday, Jan. 15, and the eastbound lanes on Ross Street near 40 Avenue will remain closed until that time.

Signs will be in place notifying drivers of the lane closures and crews will be monitoring the situation throughout the weekend, the City says.

If you notice or suspect a water leak, please use the Report-A-Problem tool on the City’s website at reddeer.ca/reportaproblem or call 403-342-8750.
