Central Alberta Mayors & Reeves Group give back to central Albertans in need

Jan 12, 2024 | 12:05 PM

Two central Alberta charities will benefit from a recent coming together of local mayors and reeves.

The Central Alberta Mayors & Reeves Group is comprised of mayors and reeves from over 40 communities throughout Central Alberta as well as representatives from different municipal advocacy groups.

The Town of Penhold coordinates this group and Penhold Mayor Mike Yargeau acts as the coordinator.

Town officials say the group meets quarterly to collaborate, network and discuss municipal challenges and triumphs. It’s noted they often invite guests to present to the group and in December, the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter (CAWES) presented information about CAWES and how their not-for-profit organization serves Central Alberta.

Town officials say attendees at the Dec. 20, 2023, meeting brought food bank and cash donations with each representative’s community being entered into a draw to determine which community’s food bank would receive the non-perishable donations. The food bank items were all donated to the Village of Delburne and the nearly $1,000 in cash donations were gifted to CAWES.

Penhold officials say the Central Alberta Mayors & Reeves Group will meet again in the spring 2024.
