Blackfalds to host national fast pitch championship

Jan 10, 2024 | 6:18 AM

This August 7-11, Blackfalds will host the Women’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship.

It will be the first time the event takes place in Alberta in 25 years.

“We’re excited to work with the local organizing committee to stage an event that will attract the top women’s teams in Canada,” says Gilles LeBlanc, Operation Manager of Softball Canada.

Mayor Jamie Hoover is enthusiastic about the positive impact the event will have on the economy and community pride.

“Blackfalds has long been known as a hub for ball tournaments in Alberta, having one of the premier facilities in the country, and it is fitting that we were selected as the host community for the 2024 Women’s National Fast Pitch Championship,” Hoover says.

“We’re excited for the opportunity to have this tournament and prove that we can be a hub in Canada for events such as this. I look forward to welcoming all athletes, teams, and softball fans this August. Play ball!”

All games will take place at Sterling Industries Sports Park (formerly All-Star Park).

The reigning national champion are the Carnduff Southeast Steelers out of Saskatchewan. The Calahoo Erins from Alberta won three straight titles prior to that in 2022, 2019 and 2018.

The last time the women’s championship was hosted in Alberta was in 1999 in Edmonton.

A full schedule and ticket information will be released here at a later date.
