First Thursday concert this week explores folk, bluegrass and country

Jan 2, 2024 | 12:14 PM

The Friends of the Red Deer Public Library (Downtown Branch) have announced the acts for this week’s First Thursday concert.

On Thursday, January 4 from 12:15 -1 p.m., The Button Boys, with Greg Leblanc on bass and Rick Moore on guitar and mandolin, will be performing at the Snell Auditorium (4818 49 St.).

Officials say the long-standing members of the local music scene have often been seen on bluegrass stages through Alberta.

“The concert will feature tight vocal harmonies and satisfying musical arrangements in the folk, bluegrass and country genres from the Neil Young, Richard Thompson, Stan Rogers, Paul Anka and Lennon McCartney Song books,” said officials in a release.

The Red Deer Public Library is asking guests to pre-register online for the concert using the link below or go to the Red Deer Public Library website and click on Upcoming Events to find the page.

For those unable to attend the concert in person, the concert will be streamed live on the Library’s YouTube channel and at rdpl.org/first-thursday.

The Friends of the Red Deer Public Library are thanking those who have made donations in support of the First Thursday concerts. They state the funds have been used to pay fees and expenses for the musicians presenting at the Library. If anyone wishes to support these concerts, cheques should be made out to the Red Deer Public Library, with a memo for CONCERTS. A charitable receipt will be issued.
