Red Deer RCMP busy this month with vehicle theft files

Red Deer RCMP had a busy month recovering stolen vehicles and laying charges against those who are accused of being responsible.

On Nov. 30, members from Red Deer, along with the Edmonton ALERT Gang Enforcement Team, arrested a male after observing him in a stolen vehicle.

At approximately 9 p.m. that night, the male abandoned the stolen vehicle he had been driving and was arrested by police shortly after, they say.

A 38-year-old male resident of Red Deer, has been charged with:

• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Obstruction of a police officer
• Driving while prohibited
• Fail to comply with release conditions x2

This male is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer Jan. 10, 2024.

Then on Dec. 5, the Crime Reduction Team (CRT) located a car that had been reported stolen earlier that morning in Innisfail.

Police say they followed the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver, however he tried to run away, they add. After a brief foot chase, members arrested a 52-year-old male, a resident of Fort Saskatchewan.

This male has been charged with:

• Theft of a car
• Resisting arrest
• Driving while prohibited
• Fail to comply with release order
• Fail to comply with an Undertaking
• Possession of a weapon
• Possession of controlled substance x2
• Driving without valid insurance

He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer Jan. 31, 2024.

Lastly, it was Dec. 7 when CRT located a truck that had been reported stolen in Red Deer the same morning.

Police followed the truck, leading them to an arrest of 34-year-old Crystal Maurice, of Red Deer.

Maurice was remanded into custody and appeared in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer Dec. 19, 2023, after being charged with the following:

• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Fail to comply with Probation Order
• Driving while prohibited
• Driving without valid insurance
• Driving while unauthorized
• Possession of a controlled substance

“Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team continues to work diligently to reduce crime within the City,” the detachment says in a release. “Using an intelligence-led strategy, CRT focuses on identifying repeat offenders and conducting targeted enforcement activities, in an effort to ensure the safety of Red Deer.”
